1. Scope and Key Definitions

1.1 Scope

This Privacy Policy applies to all products and services provided through the Wego mobile application, including location-based social discovery, activity browsing and creation, group chat, and instant messaging. It does not apply to third-party services that may be linked from within the app — those are governed by their respective privacy policies.

1.2 Key Definitions

Personal Information: Any information recorded electronically or otherwise that, alone or in combination with other information, can identify a specific individual. This includes profile data, contact information, location data, device identifiers, and usage records.

Sensitive Personal Information: A subset of personal information that, if leaked or misused, could cause material harm to an individual — including precise location, phone number, biometric data, and financial information.

Anonymization: The process of processing personal information so that the data subject cannot be identified, and the result cannot be reversed.

De-identification: Processing personal information so that, without additional information, the data subject cannot be identified.

2. Information We Collect

We collect information to provide and improve our services. The types of information we collect include:

2.1 Information You Provide Directly

Registration information: Phone number used to create your account and verify your identity via SMS.

Profile information: Nickname, date of birth, gender, bio, interest tags, and profile photos you choose to upload.

Activity content: Activities you create, including title, description, time, location, and cover image.

Messages: Content of private and group chat messages you send or receive within the app.

Uploaded media: Photos and videos you upload to your profile or share in chats and activities.

Feedback and support: Information you provide when contacting our support team, including your contact details and the content of your communications with us.

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

Location information: With your permission, we collect your precise geographic location to show you nearby activities, people, and venues. You may disable location access in your device settings, which will limit certain features.

Device information: Device model, operating system version, unique device identifiers (e.g., IDFV), network type, IP address, and language settings.

Usage logs: Pages viewed, features accessed, search queries, interaction timestamps, and crash reports.

Camera and photo library: Accessed only when you choose to take or upload a photo or video. We do not access your media library without your explicit action.

Push notification token: Used to deliver in-app notifications, match alerts, and messages to your device.

2.3 Information from Third Parties

Apple Sign In: If you choose to sign in with Apple, we receive only your email address (or a private relay address) and a name, as permitted by Apple's privacy framework. We do not receive your Apple ID password.

SMS verification: We use a third-party SMS provider (Twilio) to send one-time verification codes to your phone number. Your phone number is shared with Twilio solely for this purpose.

2.4 Information You Are Not Required to Provide

Some information (e.g., precise location, profile photo) is optional. Declining to provide it may limit certain features but will not prevent you from using the core service.

3. How We Store Your Information

3.1 We store your information on secure servers using industry-standard encryption and access controls.

3.2 We retain your personal information only for as long as necessary to provide our services, or as required by applicable law. After account deletion, we will remove or anonymize your personal data within a reasonable period, except where retention is required by law.

3.3 Profile photos and media files are stored in cloud object storage with restricted access permissions. Message content is stored on our servers to enable message history retrieval.

3.4 If we discontinue our service, we will notify users in advance and delete or anonymize personal data within a reasonable period thereafter.

4. Cookies and Similar Technologies

4.1 Our mobile application does not use browser cookies. However, we use similar technologies such as local storage and device identifiers to maintain your login session, remember your preferences, and analyze app usage patterns.

4.2 You may reset your device advertising identifier through your iOS device settings (Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking), which limits our ability to associate usage data across sessions.

5. How We Share Your Information

We respect your privacy and do not sell your personal information. We share your information only in the following circumstances:

5.1 With Other Users

When you use Wego, certain profile information (nickname, profile photo, bio, interest tags, distance) is visible to other users. Activity content you create is visible to users who browse or join that activity. Messages you send in group chats are visible to all group members.

5.2 With Third-Party Service Providers

We engage trusted third-party service providers who assist us in operating the app. These providers are contractually required to handle your data securely and only for the purposes we specify:

Apple Sign In Apple Inc. Third-party authentication Email (optional), name View
Push Notifications (APNs) Apple Inc. Delivering push notifications Device push token View

5.3 For Legal or Safety Reasons

We may disclose your information when required by applicable law, court order, or governmental authority, or when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Wego, our users, or the public.

5.4 Business Transfers

In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred to the acquiring party. We will notify you of any such change and ensure the acquiring party is bound by this Privacy Policy or obtains fresh consent from you.

5.5 With Your Consent

We may share your information with third parties for purposes not described above when you have provided explicit consent.

6. How We Protect Your Information

We implement a range of technical and organizational security measures to protect your personal information:

● All data transmitted between the app and our servers is encrypted using TLS (HTTPS).

● Sensitive data at rest (e.g., authentication tokens) is stored with encryption.

● Access to personal data is restricted to authorized personnel only, on a need-to-know basis.

● We maintain audit logs and monitoring systems to detect unauthorized access or anomalous activity.

● We regularly review our security practices and update them to address emerging threats.

In the event of a personal data breach that is likely to affect your rights or interests, we will notify you promptly through the app or via the contact information you have provided, and will take immediate remedial action.

Please be aware that no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. We encourage you to use strong, unique passwords and to keep your account credentials confidential.

7. Your Rights and Choices

7.1 Access and Correction

You may view and update your profile information at any time via Settings → Edit Profile within the app.

7.2 Deletion

You may request deletion of your personal information in the following circumstances:

● We collected or used your information without proper legal basis or consent;

● We no longer need your information for the purposes for which it was collected;

● You have withdrawn your consent and there is no other legal basis for continued processing;

● You have permanently deleted your account.

7.3 Account Deletion

You may delete your Wego account at any time via Settings → Delete Account. Account deletion is irreversible. Upon deletion, we will cease providing services to you and will delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days, unless retention is required by law. Any content you have posted (e.g., activity listings, group messages) will be anonymized or removed.

7.4 Location Permissions

You may revoke location access at any time via iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Wego. Disabling location will prevent features such as the Explore map and nearby activity discovery from functioning.

7.5 Push Notifications

You may disable push notifications at any time via iOS Settings → Notifications → Wego.

8. Minors

Wego is intended for users who are 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If we become aware that we have collected information from a person under 18, we will delete such information promptly. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information, please contact us at service@wego-chat.com.

9. Updates to This Policy

9.1 We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, legal requirements, or app features. We will notify you of material changes via in-app notification or push notification before the changes take effect.

9.2 Your continued use of Wego after the effective date of the updated policy constitutes your acceptance of the changes. If you do not agree to the updated policy, you should stop using the service and delete your account.

9.3 Material changes include, but are not limited to: changes in the types of data we collect, changes in the purposes for which data is used, changes to third-party sharing practices, and changes to your rights under this policy.
